Access Statement
Introduction
Dillons of Whitby is located on a major road within Whitby and has five guest rooms. The house was built in 1895 and whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features that may make access difficult for people with limited mobility. Our guest rooms are located over two floors accessed only via two flights of stairs. Two guest rooms are at first floor level and have en-suite shower and bathrooms. On the second floor there are three guest rooms again ensiute, the ceilings are sloping in some rooms due to the eaves. As all our guest rooms are at first and second floors they are not suitable for wheelchair users.
Pre-Arrival
We are located on a major road just 5 minutes walk from Whitby town centre and 10 minutes from the West Cliff Beach area, you will encounter hills in both directions. Access to the beach is via a zigzag cliff path, steps and a cliff lift during high season. Our location is central and we are well positioned for those wishing to use the beach and explore the town area, although as with many areas in Whitby roads and paths are hilly.
The nearest shops, pubs and cafés are within easy, but not level, walking distance in the direction of Flowergate and Baxtergate.
The nearest bus stops are on Chubb Hill Road and the small bus station is around 5 minutes walk. From here buses run to Scarborough, Middlesborough and the surrounding area, we also have copies of the local timetables for guest use.
The nearest railway station is around 5 minutes walk from Dillons. There are limited services from this station along the Esk Valley to Middlesborough and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway also runs from here.
There are several local taxi companies and taxis can usually be found around the harbourside, approximately 5 minutes walk from Dillons. We also hold taxi details on file.
Dillons is pleased to welcome pets in two of our guest bedrooms by prior arrangement. Assistance dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.
Menus and guest information can be provided in large print if required. We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille.
